FSC GENERAL ASSEMBLY SPECIAL ISSUE: 1 JULY 2011

TODAY'S MAIN TOPICS
The first voting day of the 2011 FSC General Assembly began yesterday with a lively speech by Andre de Freitas leaving participants with some memorable phrases, including: “FSC is like malaria. You get it once and it keeps coming back”.

In this issue, we present some of yesterday's key decisions and continued motion negotiations that have resulted in revised motions to be voted on today. NEPCon's CEO Peter Feilberg offers his perspective on the membership’s decision to realign FSC on the course of on the ground performance.

Also in today's issue, FSC Columbia shares their perspective on the increasing disparity between private and community certification in Latin America. Offering further perspective in this region, Jaime Levy from neighbouring Ecuador is today's FSC Mover & Shaker. Robert Simeone talks of the need for propagation of lesser known species to boost sustainable forest management in the tropics.

We will report on today's result in our sixth and final issue of this Special Edition scheduled for release on Wednesday 6 July 2011.
