Basic requirements for COC certification
Both the FSC and PEFC chain of custody certification standards focus on systems and procedures that ensure efficient tracking of certified material throughout all production, storage, transport and handling processes. Key elements of the CoC standards in both systems are:
- Documentation for the origin of purchased materials
- Internal tracking of certified materials
- Procedures for reporting the purchase and sale of certified materials and products.
- Procedures for using the systems' trademarks.
Procedures and systems covering the above as well as traning of relevant staff to implement the documented control system must be in place prior to certification. This is thoroughly reviewed by NEPCon's assessors during a chain of custody assessment.
