IKEA supplier in Poland FSC certified

The Polish company "Swedwood Poland - Skoczow plant" recently received an FSC chain of custody certificate from The Rainforest Alliance, based on assessments done by NEPCon.

The company is part of the Swedwood Group which is wholly-owned by the multinational home furnishing chain IKEA. The Swedwood Group is the most important wood-based furniture supplier to IKEA and its operations cover every step of IKEA furniture production, from forestry, sawmilling and board production to the manufacturing of furniture items.

Currently about 30 companies are included in the Swedwood group, employing more than 14,000 co-workers around the world, and the group’s total annual sales exceed one billion EUR. Swedwood companies are located mainly in Eastern Europe. The FSC certification of Swedwood Poland - Skoczow plant is in line with IKEA’s policy that all of its subsidiary companies supplying wood or wood products must become FSC certified within the next few years.

The Skoczow plant employs about 290 workers in its production of glueboards, frames and drawer sides. All products are made from spruce. The company also produces briquettes which are made from sawdust generated on-site. The company supplies products to other Swedwood companies in Romania and Slovakia. In addition to delivering products to the IKEA supply chain, it supplies other buyers in Denmark and Germany.

The company uses 100% FSC certified materials and FSC controlled wood as inputs for their certified products.
