Sustainable Forest
Using a participatory approach, the project developed a set of guidelines for sustainable forest management in Denmark at forest estate level. The process involved all stakeholder organisations, and also established expert groups that provided inputs on the economic, social, and ecological aspects of sustainability.
The guidelines were tested on four forest areas through the development of forest management plans, and the economic, social and ecological consequences of realizing the managment plans were analysed and assessed by independent expert groups. The planning process comprised forest inventories, soil site mapping and development and testing of a methodology for woodland key habitat inventories in Denmark.
The guidelines developed through this project subsequently formed the basis for development of the Danish FSC standards.
The project was financed by the Danish Forest and Nature Agency and implemented by NEPCon. Project implementation period: 1995-1996.
