development of management plans in protected areas of Lithuania

The project’s main aim was to finalize the Natura 2000 process in Lithuania in the course of 18 months. This implies development of management plans for 60 designated Natura 2000 sites as well as proposals for institutional adjustments, legal amendments, and a component regarding capacity building of relevant staff.

The project was the third consecutive project where NEPCon assisted the implementation of the Lithuanian Natura 2000 process. The two previous projects spanned a total period of 4,5 years. NEPCon has thus assisted the Lithuanian Natura 2000 process right from the beginning, and through this project followed it to the actual implementation of Natura 2000 protection of designated areas.

The project was implemented by Ramboll (leading partner) and NEPCon during the period 2004-2005. It was financed by the EU Phare program. NEPCon provided project management as well as technical assistance to the training and management plan components of the project.
